Nativity of Mary

When the Virgin Woman was Born God’s Promise of Salvation Begins

Today – on September 8 – the Church celebrates the birth of the young virgin Woman, who from the very beginning was proclaimed by God at the Garden of Eden.

I will put enmity between you and the Woman . . . “

And who was prophesied in the Old Testament, thus:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young Woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

And so the Church celebrates today the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a feast that shines with hope and joy as her birth marked the dawn of salvation history – through her, God prepared a pure vessel for the coming of His Son.

Mary’s birth was the beginning of God’s saving plan entering into human history. Her life from it’s very moment, was marked by God’s grace and a singular mission: to bring Christ into the world. From the very start Mary was chosen to be the Mother of the Savior.

We are Called to be like Mary

Like Mary, we are each called to say “yes” to God’s plan for our life. Her humility, faith and obedience to God stand as invitation for us to trust God’s will in our life, just as she did.

Prayer

“O Mary, your birth brought joy to the whole world, intercede for us that we may walk in the light of Christ your Son. Teach us to trust God as you did, and to live always in the grace of God, Amen.”
